Keeping a journal and writing poetry since elementary school, Saria Monette believes wholeheartedly in the healing power of words. A journalist by trade, Ms. Monette only recently began to pursue her creative writing career. “Perfume and Panties” is her first literary work. She says she decided to publish “Perfume & Panties,” a collection of her most personal work, as a way to let go of her past hurts and disappointments. Says Ms. Monette: “I believe I have a message many people can relate to and if I can help someone overcome with that message then I’m doing my job. That, to me, is the most fulfilling thing in the world.” Second of five girls, Ms. Monette was born in St. Louis, Mo., and raised in Fort Myers, Fla. She received her bachelor’s degree in mass communication with concentrations in English and print journalism from N.C. Central University in Durham. Ms. Monette currently resides in sunny Southwest Florida.
